Observation and Problems
The Associated Grocery Store Co-op was experiencing a problem with keeping
fruits and vegetables fresher and odor free throughout their entire
operations. The "shrink" was running far above industry standards. In
addition, the majority of the produce coolers had excess moisture, which
in turn was causing a mold problem.
Solution
Mega Fresh® Filter units were installed behind the existing produce
evaporators. This type of installation did not impede any use of shelf
space or storage ability of fruits and vegetables. The goal was to reduce
excess moisture and control the ethylene gas.
Results
Mr. R.M. Carr, Equipment Engineering Manager, said, "The BK product called
Mega Fresh® has helped maintain moisture control and enhance the life
of perishable products by retarding the ethylene gas ripening process." Mr.
Carr also recommended the Mega Fresh Filter system to all A.G. Co-op
members.
