Observation and Problems
Failure of cut flowers to open, premature closing of open flowers, sleepiness
(a wilted look), leaf yellowing and leaves dropping off. Foliage plants
dropping leaves and flowers. Roses and other flowers experiencing rapid
flower opening.
Solution
Flower Power filters were installed in the floral coolers in order to reduce
the ethylene gas that the flowers and plants were producing and eliminate the
excess condensation that had been present. As a result, the Flower Power
installation created a healthier environment for the cut flowers and plants.
Results
The owner of the Plant Gallery, Mr. Ken Rabalais, responded, "The Flower Power
Filter system reduced the ethylene gas thereby allowing the petals and stems
to stay crisp and fresh. The flowers did not become transparent and held true
to color. Since the flowers are lasting longer, our spoilage rate has been
reduced by more than 50 percent."
